The Knife That Started It All — Reimagined.
Where the Map Turns Blue: The 7" Medium Flex - Flagship Anniversary Edition
Seven years ago, we made one knife.
We didn't have a lineup. We didn't have a story yet. We had a blade we believed in, a name — SORD, and a mission to elevate the fishing experience with the most durable knives in fishing.
That knife was the 7" Medium Flex. The flagship SORD. The one that started everything.
And now, seven years later, we wanted to do something that felt worthy of that same original passion. Not a simple colorway swap. Something that actually meant something — to us, and to the people who've been out there fishing with us ever since.
Introducing, the Where the Map Turns Blue Edition.
SEVEN YEARS OF SORD
If you've been with us from the beginning, you know what the 7" Medium Flex is. It's the knife that's traveled the most miles, cleaned the most fish, and earned its place on more cleaning tables than we can count. It's the one that anglers hand to their kids on the first fish. It's the one that goes on every trip.
It's not a specialty knife. It's not built for one species or one situation. It's the one you grab when you don't have time to think, because it does everything, and it does it right.
For seven years, it's been the heart of what SORD is.
This drop is our way of saying thank you for that.
WHERE THE MAP TURNS BLUE
If you know SORD, you know the mantra.
Where the map turns blue.
It's the reason we do any of this. The pull that gets you out of bed before the alarm. The coordinates you don't share with anyone. The stretch of water that's yours. The one that showed up in your head the moment you read those words.
Here's the thing about that phrase: it means something different to every single person who hears it.
For some of you, the map turns blue offshore. Deep cobalt blue. Where the big ones come up from places you can't quite find twice. For others it's a river bend, a backwater creek, a farm pond where your grandfather first handed you a rod. A snapper spot where your kid hooked up for the first time. A honey hole that doesn't even have a name, just a magnetic pull.
That's the whole point. Your map. Your blue.
This knife is built for all of it. For all of you.
BUILDING THE LOOK
When it came time to design the handle for this one, we didn't want something generic. We didn't want to slap a color on it and call it a day.
We wanted the handle itself to mean something.
What you're looking at is a layered Black and Ice Blue G10 handle, CNC-cut into an abstract, flowing pattern of concentric rings and contour lines.
We left the interpretation open on purpose.
Look at it one way and it's a topographic map - the kind you'd study before modern satellite scanning, tracing the contours of the bottom. Look at it another way and it's radar rings, just like you’d overlay them on your charts. It could be the marks of your favorite bottom fishing spot, where that first exotic grouper came over the rail.
It's wherever you see blue.
That's the identity of this knife. Whatever identity you give it. Or maybe whatever it gives you.
THE BLADE
The 7" Medium Flex doesn't need much of an introduction, but for those who are newer to SORD, here's what you're getting.
This is the blade that's proven itself in the Gulf, on the flats, in freshwater, in the cold, in the dark, and everything in between. Medium flex gives you the versatility to work confidently on a wide range of species – enough give to follow the contours of a fish, enough backbone to make controlled, deliberate cuts when you need them on tougher species.
The blade length sits in that sweet spot where it's long enough to handle most fish cleanly, precise enough to work in tight spaces. It's not the knife you grab for just one thing. It's the knife you can grab for everything.
If you've never cleaned fish with a SORD, the 7" Medium Flex is the blade to start with.
If you've been fishing with one for years, this one belongs on your wall and in your hand at the same time.
A LIMITED RUN. ONE TIME ONLY.
This isn't going into the core lineup. It's not coming back in another colorway. When these are gone, they're gone for good.
We made a limited number of the Where the Map Turns Blue Edition, and they will sell out. We're also making them available through select retailers and tackle shops, so keep an eye on your local shop if you miss the drop.
We didn't build this one to sit in a box. We built it to fish. But we also built it to mark seven years of doing this with the people who love the water as much as we do.
